Members of the South Carolina Upstate Mycological Society meet monthly, except for January, on the first Monday of the month or as the schedule allows.
Check below for specific dates, locations, and speaker information.
Meetings start at 6:30pm, arrive any time after 6:00pm.
The format of the meetings is intended to be casual and social. We typically have a speaker who gives a presentation on a mycological topic of their choice, and also discuss recent fungal finds, arrange the upcoming foray, work on identifying specimens, etc.
All levels of knowledge are welcome!
Meeting place: See individual event for location, it changes based on availability.

"On the Mushrooms of Mexico" with Zachary and Kimberly Hunter
Since 2019, Zachary and Kimberly Hunter aka The Fungivore https://thefungivore.com/index.html, have been learning and exploring Mexican mycology and ethnomycology under the guidance of the indigenous communities and their preserved forests. This presentation details the mushrooms we've found, spanning Central to Southern Mexico, and more importantly the community groups and individuals leading Mexico to become a forerunner in the new paradigm. In this paradigm, indigenous knowledge is seen as a leading edge that Western science is only just beginning to fully understand, rather than as secondary to scientific discovery. Whatever you think you know about Mexico, this talk seeks to illuminate a wider appreciation of our neighbor to the South, and hopefully will spurn your curiosity to imagine a different kind of mushroom knowledge.
When: Monday, May 4. Join any time after 6:00 pm, meeting starts at 6:30 pm.
Where: We will meet on the Clemson University campus (The Easley Library has been reserved for internal use):
Biosystems Research Complex | 105 Collings Street Clemson University Clemson, SC 29634-0310. Map is here. We are meeting in G-100, which is directly in front of you when you enter through the doors indicated on the map.
Parking: As a visitor, you must park and pay in a metered space (unless you have a pass, those are $8 from Parking Services. A map to the metered spaces (Parking E-1) is here. Meters take credit cards, cash, etc. Yes, you do have to pay in the evening/night. You can find more information with details here. The metered spaces are not far from the meeting spot, if you look at the map you can see they are in the parking lot adjacent to the Biosystems Research Complex.
Please give yourselves more time to find us! Campuses are not arranged conveniently like the library, Cheezam Center, and most businesses. And the signage is not as clear - so give yourself extra time. We have a nice meeting space in this building, and appropriately a lot of great research dealing with fungi and plants is conducted in the labs upstairs. We have access to the break room and food and drinks are allowed. As always, we need to clean up after ourselves and leave the room as we found it.
Volunteers: I need 1-2 people to tend to the front doors, since they require a card key 24/7. If you are available to arrive by 6:00 and stand by the doors to let others in, please let me know (jkerrig@clemson.edu). We always need help breaking things down and cleaning up after the meeting.
Feel free to call me (864-650-1529) if you need assistance finding us!
